WALLACE — The Shoshone County Courthouse lobby is once again lined with beautifully decorated, themed Christmas trees.

The courthouse is currently hosting its annual Christmas tree auction with one hundred percent of the proceeds going toward the Silver Valley Meals on Wheels Program.

For over 30 years, Meals on Wheels has been feeding elderly citizens in the Silver Valley with daily home deliveries of warm, fresh meals.

Shoshone County Commissioner Jay Huber took part in decorating a tree for the fundraiser, and said he was happy to help such a worthy cause.

“It’s a great program. It’s wonderful because they help feed everyone who can’t get out, and then they also provide welfare checks,” he said. “The Meals on Wheels program guys check and make sure the people in the homes are okay. So, it’s a program that does double the good.”

Each of the trees were sponsored and designed by departments within the county, including the commissioners office, county assessors and sheriff's office.

As done in years past, the trees each carry a different theme, such as this year’s Toy Story and John Deere-themed décor.

Bidding for the trees is open to the public and will take place in the main foyer of the Shoshone County Courthouse from now until Monday afternoon, with winners will be contacted on Tuesday.

The Silver Valley Meals on Wheels program expressed their gratitude for the event and said they are always blown away by the support the courthouse generates for the program.

“We are very excited about it,” said Anita, Office Administrator for the Meals on Wheels program. “It’s another blessing of course. The community is very, very generous, and this has been such a wonderful year.”

“I think it’s a great cause to donate to,” said Huber. “In fact, I can’t think of a better one.”
