State officials have opened public comments for open-water fishing contests in 2022, including angling competitions in Lake Koocanusa and the Thompson Chain of Lakes.

Among nearly 60 competitions listed for comment by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, 21 are within Region 1, which covers northwest Montana. Information on the competitions can be found on the FWP Fishing Contest website or by calling 406-444-2449, according to a press release from the agency.

Lincoln County anglers can expect the Koocanusa Resort and Marina Annual Fishing Derby on May 14-15. The Bull Lake Pike Strike contest will run June 11-12. At the Upper, Middle and Lower Thompson lakes and Loon Lake, anglers can look forward to the Pike Pursuit on June 4-5. The Buddy Series Qualifier No. 4 will be on Aug. 6 at the Lower & Middle Thompson Lakes.

Other events are scheduled for reservoirs close to home, including Flathead Lake and the Noxon Rapids Reservoir.

FWP will consider comments received on or before Jan. 13, 2022. The agency will accept feedback mailed to FWP Fisheries Division, Attn: Fishing Contests, P.O. Box 200701, Helena, MT 59620-0701. Comments can be emailed to FWPFishComments@mt.gov.
