Mabel Werner was born July 15, 1927, in Lehr, N.D. to Jacob and Emelia (Werth) Flemmer.
She grew up in North Dakota where she received her elementary education and graduated from high school at Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, N.D. She received a bachelor’s degree from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., and a master’s degree in home economics from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.
She taught in secondary schools in Nebraska, Colorado and California. In 1959 she met Robert (Bob) Werner while they were both attending summer school at Colorado State University. They were married on June 14, 1960, in Pueblo, Colo., where they resided until 1979 when they moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They enjoyed 48 years together until Bob passed away in 2008.
Mabel enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and reading. She was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Seventh-day Adventist church and was most recently a member of the Post Falls Seventh-day Adventist church.
She is survived by her son, Bill Werner, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Werner from Post Falls, Idaho; grandson, Drew Werner also from Post Falls; and granddaughter, Dana Thompson and husband Henry Thompson of Kansas City, Kan. She is also survived by two sisters, Erna Hauck from Fort Collins, Colo., and Ida Lehman from Chattanooga, Tenn.
A viewing will be held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, with the funeral service starting at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home – Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St. in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Mabel will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bob, at Prairie View Cemetery.
