Tubbs Hill is about 150 acres of beauty. Add snow, and it's magical, too.

A Sunday afternoon run up, around and down the trails of Tubbs found a few people with dogs and plenty of picture-perfect scenes.

A snowman at the top, snow-covered stumps, boulders and a bridge, icicles hanging near moss and branches bearing what seemed to be white puffs of fluff, created a Narnia-like world.

The delight of discovering freshly fallen snow on this city-owned hill, far from the madding crowd, and being the only one there, was a gift.

Such snow days don't come along often. If you venture there, step carefully and soak in the sounds and scenes. The peace and solitude on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene in the winter can't be found elsewhere.

Per the city, the trail head on the west side of Tubbs Hill is located in the southwestern corner of McEuen Park. The east side trail head is located at the south end of 10th Street. A 2.2-mile interpretive trail follows the perimeter of Tubbs Hill. Watch for signs directing you to higher ground.

The top is worth the cold climb.
