POST FALLS — A woman accused of attempting to take a toddler from a yard last fall will spend up to five years in prison.

Jenny L. Anderson, 40, of Minneapolis, pleaded guilty this week to attempted destruction of evidence, a felony, as well as to injury to a child and obstructing an officer, both misdemeanors.

For the misdemeanor charges, Judge Lansing Haynes sentenced Anderson on Wednesday to 148 days in jail with 148 days credit for time served.

Haynes sentenced Anderson to two years fixed and three years indeterminate on the felony charge.

Police responded in September 2020 to a report that a woman, later identified as Anderson, had walked into the backyard of a Post Falls residence and picked up a 1-year-old girl who was being cared for by a babysitter.

The child’s mother contacted police again two days later to report that Anderson had returned and had allegedly attempted to lure two girls to a nearby hotel.

Police contacted Anderson at her hotel room. She reportedly said she was in town to see her 7-year-old daughter and to work.

The babysitter confirmed to police that Anderson was the woman who tried to take the child from the yard, according to court documents.

Police arrested Anderson and charged her with second-degree attempted kidnapping.

While in custody at the Kootenai County jail, Anderson contacted two people and asked them to use her iCloud account to delete all data on her iPhone, which had been seized as evidence, police said.

An investigation determined that the incident was not a case of attempted child trafficking, according to court documents.

Anderson reportedly pleaded guilty as part of a pretrial settlement offer.
