Allegiant Air on Tuesday announced new twice-weekly service to San Diego from Glacier Park International Airport starting in late May.

Headquartered in Las Vegas, Allegiant is known for its “ultra low-cost” public and charter flights. Allegiant Air keeps ticket prices down by exclusively operating nonstop regional flights; the airline doesn’t offer one-stop or connecting flights.

Allegiant’s new seasonal service from GPIA to San Diego will begin May 28 and run until Aug. 16. San Diego joins a collection of Allegiant destinations out of GPIA, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, California, and Phoenix/Mesa, Arizona.

“Montana travelers appreciate the quality, low-cost options offered by Allegiant Air,” Airport Director Rob Ratkowski said in a press release. “This new service from Kalispell will not only benefit those flying to San Diego but will provide greater opportunity for those wishing to visit our beautiful state. Allegiant Air has been a fantastic partner at GPIA and we look forward to the expanded service to the San Diego market.”

Allegiant’s expansion is yet another sign of recovery for GPIA. The airport gradually has been recuperating from the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic since passenger volumes hit all-time lows in April 2020.

Allegiant’s expanded service announcement comes on the heels of a January announcement that Sun Country Airlines would add GPIA as a destination.

Also in January, the Flathead Municipal Airport Authority gave GPIA the green light to resume a $100 million expansion project that was tabled at the height of the pandemic.

“Travel recovery at GPIA has been tremendous,” Ratkowski said. “It is no surprise that airlines continue to recognize the benefit of adding routes to and from Kalispell.”
