Rathdrum man get 15 years for vehicular manslaughter
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 3 years, 11 months AGO
POST FALLS — A Rathdrum man will spend up to 15 years in prison after prosecutors said he caused a woman’s death while driving drunk.
Dwayne A. Bradley, 47, of Rathdrum, pleaded guilty in accordance with Alford to vehicular manslaughter, a felony.
By entering an Alford plea, Bradley does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence that he might be convicted if the case went to trial.
The charge stems from Oct. 19, 2019, when Bradley reportedly backed out of a parking spot outside Bob’s 21 Club in Post Falls at a high rate of speed.
While turning and slamming on the brakes, Bradley reportedly caused his passenger to be ejected from the vehicle, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office.
The passenger died from head injuries caused when hitting the pavement, the release said.
Prosecutors said Bradley told police the passenger had jumped from the truck. His blood alcohol level was reportedly .173, more than double the legal limit.
Bradley had five prior DUIs, as well as convictions for felony eluding and trafficking meth, the release said.
Judge Lansing Haynes sentenced Bradley on Monday to eight years fixed and seven years indeterminate on the vehicular manslaughter charge, with credit for time served.
“Mr. Bradley’s failure to acknowledge his responsibility for the death of his passenger, when combined with his criminal history and unwillingness to follow the terms of his parole demonstrate the danger he poses to the community," said Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney Barry McHugh. "The case is a tragic reminder that driving under the influence is a serious offense that puts the lives of others at risk."
