POST FALLS — A man is in jail after police said they found more than 10 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Jesse R. Jackson, 39, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with trafficking in marijuana, a felony, and with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. Prosecutors also filed a persistent violator enhancement.

Police responded around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 to a report that a man was yelling and throwing trash out his car’s window.

The man, identified as Jackson, was allegedly behaving erratically when police arrived.

Police said they observed what appeared to be marijuana leaves, stems and other plant debris on the ground near Jackson’s vehicle. They also allegedly saw plant material inside the vehicle in plain view, according to court documents.

A search of the vehicle allegedly yielded a pipe, as well as several containers filled with what police said was marijuana.

The final weight of the plant material was 10.25 pounds, according to court documents.

Police arrested Jackson at the scene.

In Idaho, possession of more than one pound of marijuana is considered trafficking, a felony.

Possessing between five and 25 pounds of marijuana is punishable by a minimum of three years in prison and a minimum $10,000 fine.

Judge Clark Peterson ordered Friday that Jackson be held on $75,000 bail.

Jackson was previously convicted of possession of a controlled substance in Kootenai County in 2006 and 2011. Both charges were felonies.
