GOD: High school unwelcoming

Thank you God? Not in this venue.

What a joy it was to be able to attend a high school sporting event recently at Coeur d’Alene High, who hosted the North Idaho Rumble. I love being able to cheer on the local kids who work so hard in sports, especially wrestling.

I was taken aback when the announcer announced that “he would not be reading any religious statements or anything that mentioned God” while reading the info sheets for the wrestlers in the finals. The announcer claimed that “this came down above.”

It is an honor to get to fill out an info sheet to be read during your introduction at the finals of a tournament. It gives the athlete the opportunity to show off their accomplishments, tell a little about themselves and give thanks to whomever helped get them there, especially God. Unless you’re at Coeur d’Alene High, where God will not be given any credit over the loud speaker.

Come on Coeur d’Alene High School, leave the censorship to Facebook.
