NIC wrestler Silva signs with NAIA Arizona Christian

COEUR d'ALENE — North Idaho College sophomore wrestler Sal Silva recently signed a letter of intent with NAIA Arizona Christian University in Glendale, Ariz., beginning in the fall of 2021.

Silva, who came to NIC from Walden Grove High in Sahuarita, Ariz., just south of Tucson, finished third at 149 pounds at last year's NJCAA championships.

“It’s really exciting for Sal to be able to continue his wrestling career near his family,” NIC wrestling coach Michael Sebaaly said. “Arizona Christian is a new program in its second year, and Sal will be able to give them leadership and make an impact on the mat right away.”

Idaho, Eastern among Athlon Preseason Top 25 in football

Three Big Sky football teams are ranked in the Athlon Sports Preseason Top 25, announced Tuesday by the organization.

Defending Big Sky co-champion and FCS Playoff semifinalist Weber State is ranked No. 2.

Eastern Washington, which missed the playoffs last year, comes in at No. 12.

Idaho, which also missed the playoffs, is ranked No. 24.

North Dakota State is ranked No. 1.

The Athlon Sports Preseason Top 25, first released last spring, had to be revised, taking out teams that opted out of playing in their conference's spring season. Those teams included Montana State (No. 5) and Montana (7).
