MOSES LAKE — An expiring lease played a role in the decision of the Tri-State Outfitters owners to close the Moses Lake store May 12.
The company sells outdoor equipment, sporting goods, hunting and fishing gear, camping and hiking gear, outdoor and athletic apparel, hiking boots and other footwear.
“We’re not able to renew our lease,” said Tri-State Vice President Mike Perrin. “It was a decision we made based off the overall business.”
The company also has stores in Coeur d’Alene and Moscow, which remain open. The Coeur d'Alene store, which opened in 1984, performed well over the holidays.
"This has no impact on the CDA store," wrote Joe Power, Tri-State Outfitters regional manager.
Tri-State Outfitters’ owners did some remodeling and added merchandise to the Moses Lake store over the last couple of years, but in the end they decided to give up the lease, Perrin said.
“It was a tough decision,” Perrin said.
The Moses Lake location has customers who built friendships with store employees.
“They (customers) were loyal,” he said.
Tri-State Outfitters has been in Moses Lake since 1982.
The Coeur d'Alene store is having a President's Day sale through Feb. 16, with 25% off many past season items and 40% off past season athletic footwear.
The Coeur d'Alene store is at 6775 Sunshine St.
Tri-State Outfitters was formerly owned by Gerard Connelly, who sold it in 2010. It is now owned by Crown Enterprises of Kalispell, Mont. It is the sister company of Sportsman & Ski Haus.
