ROYAL CITY — The area was chosen because of the view, Drew Scott, owner of CAD Homes LLC, said. Rows of Washington Fruit’s Golden Delicious apple trees stretch right up to the company’s housing development beneath the Saddle Mountains.

That’s why “Orchard View” on the east side of Royal City is such an appropriate name for the 30-lot neighborhood.

“We acquired that piece of ground (in) early 2020 and went through the subdivision process with the city,” Scott said. “Now we’re cranking away on it.”

Kimberly Street marks the first phase of the neighborhood. The second phase, along Alice Avenue, just started.

Homebuyers can choose from nine floor plans, ranging from 1,080 t0 2,154 square feet. The plans are detailed at cadhomesllc.com. Homes have three or four bedrooms and two or three bathrooms. Prices start at $222,000.

The project has been going smoothly, Scott said, with hardly any obstacles.

“The city of Royal is great to work with,” he said. “It was a pretty seamless process with them.”

Every new housing development seems to be filling quickly, said Royal City Mayor Kent Andersen, indicating a high demand in this south Grant County community.

That’s CAD’s biggest goal in Royal City, Scott said: to fill more vacant ground as well as to fill the dire need for housing.

“We’re just glad to see some growth in the community,” Andersen said. “The last few years things have started to turn around. We’ve seen some significant growth.”
