Traffic was diverted for almost two hours Friday afternoon on state Road 17, near the Stratford Road bypass, after a pickup truck and trailer veered off the road, turned over and spilled debris, including nails.

Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said the accident occurred at 2:28 p.m. Bryant said the driver, 42-year-old Eric Mclean, of Ephrata, was involved in a four-car collision on Grape Drive in Moses Lake before fleeing onto state Route 17. Mclean veered off the road as he headed under the Stratford Road bypass.

Mclean was uninjured after the wreck and was arrested at the scene for allegedly driving under the influence and having a suspended driver’s license. Bryant said Mclean also is accused of the hit-and-run incident on Grape Drive, too.

State Route 17 was reopened at 4:18 p.m., after road crews cleared the nails and debris from the road.
