COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a man who they said pointed a gun at his wife in front of his children.
The 43-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession, both felonies, as well as with two counts of misdemeanor injury to a child. Prosecutors also filed a persistent violator enhancement.
Police responded Friday night to a Coeur d’Alene residence where a woman reported that her husband had pointed a gun at her.
She reportedly said she was in the children’s bedroom when her husband entered, grabbed her by her shirt and began to drag her out.
She held onto the door frame, she said, and her husband pulled so hard on her clothes that he ripped them. Her clothes were so torn that they were almost falling off her body when police arrived, according to court documents.
Both children allegedly said they saw their father holding a gun during the altercation.
The man’s teen son told police he believed his father was about to “execute” his stepmother, according to court documents.
Police arrested the man at the scene.
He was previously convicted of several felonies in California between 1998 and 2004, including taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and burglary.
Judge Timothy Van Valin ordered Monday that the man be held on $100,000 bail.
The Press is not naming the suspect at this time because that would reveal the identities of the victims. The Press tries to protect the privacy of victims.
