It’s only the first game of the season for the Thompson Falls boys basketball team but “wow” is a word that comes to mind.

The highly regarded Blue Hawks absolutely dismantled the Troy Trojans Saturday night, routing the home team 76-13.

Nine Thompson Falls players scored during the game, topped by 20 points from Nathan Schraeder, who had a perfect night shooting the basketball.

Schraeder went 5-for-5 from two-point range, 2-for-2 from beyond the 3-point arc and canned all four of his free throw attempts during the game. He also had five assists and four steals to top off his evening’s work.

The Blue Hawks put this one away early, jumping to a lead right out of the tip and rolling to an astonishing 38-2 first quarter lead.

It got worse after that for Trojan fans.

The rout was on big time, giving Blue Hawks non-starters plenty of time on the hardwood. Thompson Falls outscored Troy 12-2 in the second quarter to coast into halftime with a 50-4 lead.

Much like the game involving the Lady Blue Hawks versus Troy the same day, things did not get better for the Trojans in the second half.

The Trojans did manage to score five points in the third quarter, but the Blue Hawks added another 16 of their own to go up 66-9 with eight minutes to play.

Coach Jake Mickelson and crew added another 10 points in the fourth quarter to complete the lopsided victory.

Joining Schraeder in double-figure scoring was newcomer Dante Micheli, who tallied 18 points while hitting seven of 12 2-point shots, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out three assists and stealing the ball five times.

Plains transfer Tristan Subatch made his Blue Hawks basketball debut a good one by hauling in seven rebounds, six of them off the defensive glass. Fellow Plains transfer Kade Pardee snared eight rebounds and scored seven points, while 6-5 post player Cody Burke had nine points to go with his three rebounds.

For the game, Thompson Falls shot almost 63 percent from two-point range on the night.

The Blue Hawks next face Mission on the road Friday night, followed by an encounter with Eureka the next evening, Jan. 9, in Thompson Falls.
