POST FALLS — A woman who police said tried to kidnap a toddler from a yard last fall will face a jury trial next month.

Jenny L. Anderson, 40, of Minneapolis, is charged with second-degree kidnapping and attempted destruction of evidence, both felonies.

Police responded in September 2020 to a report that a woman, later identified as Anderson, had walked into the backyard of a Post Falls residence and picked up a 1-year-old girl who was being cared for by a babysitter.

The child’s mother contacted police again two days later to report that Anderson had returned and had allegedly attempted to lure two girls to a nearby hotel.

Police contacted Anderson at her hotel room. She reportedly said she was in town to see her 7-year-old daughter and to work.

The babysitter confirmed to police that Anderson was the woman who tried to take the child from the yard, according to court documents. Police arrested Anderson and charged her with second-degree attempted kidnapping.

While in custody at the Kootenai County jail, Anderson contacted two people and asked them to use her iCloud account to delete all data on her iPhone, which had been seized as evidence, police said.

Judge Lansing Haynes dismissed a motion last month to reduce Anderson’s bond. She remains in jail on $50,000 bail.

A three-day jury trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 2.
