WORLEY — Police arrested a man who they say knocked his wife unconscious at the Coeur d’Alene Casino.

Zachary A. Johnson, 35, of Davenport, Wash., is charged with domestic battery, a felony.

Deputies with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3 a.m. Monday to a report of a domestic dispute at the casino. Tribal police had already detained Johnson in handcuffs.

Security footage allegedly shows Johnson yelling at a woman who was identified as his wife. Johnson reportedly moved out of frame, toward his wife, who fell to the ground.

Police said Johnson was seen on video kicking his wife while she was on the ground. He then allegedly dragged her limp body across the floor, after which she lay motionless for several minutes. She eventually rolled over and crawled away.

The woman’s face was bruised and bloody, police said. She was reportedly bleeding from her ear. One of her eyelids was swollen and drooping.

She allegedly told police she and her husband had been “play fighting” and she had no memory of being hit or kicked.

When questioned, Johnson reportedly said the couple had argued but he didn’t remember what happened after that.

Police arrested Johnson at the scene.

Judge Robert Caldwell issued a no contact order between Johnson and his wife on Tuesday.

Johnson is being held on $50,000 bail.
