MOSCOW — Cole Rutherford scored nine of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, including a steal and go-ahead basket with 30 seconds left, as the Post Falls Trojans rallied to beat the Moscow Bears 46-41 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday night at Bear Den.

After Moscow missed a shot to tie or take the lead, Post Falls got the ball back and eventually Rutherford drove for a three-point play in the waning seconds for the final margin.

“His fourth-quarter play was phenomenal,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said.

Alex Horning added 11 points for Post Falls (7-3, 3-0 IEL), including a 3-pointer to tie the game after the Trojans trailed by five points with less than two minutes left.

Rutherford had five assists and three steals, Jaxon Anderson five rebounds for Post Falls.

“We are a team that doesn’t have much of an identity as far as intensity,” McLean said. “I thought we snapped out of it in our last game against Lewiston. Without Jaxon and Cole, we don’t win the game tonight.”

Benny Kitchell scored 12 points, Dylan Rehder 10 for Moscow (3-4, 1-2).

Post Falls travels to Lake City on Friday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Timberwolves scored the game’s first 16 points en route to a victory over the Bulldogs in IEL play.

“Tonight we were very energized, just really focused,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “Incredible start; we just played solid defense all four quarters.”

Kolton Mitchell scored 18 points, Zach Johnson 17 points and six rebounds, Varick Meredith 14 points for Lake City (6-5, 2-0 IEL). Chris Irvin added six points and eight rebounds, and Ben Janke hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points.

“Chris and Ben stepped it up,” Winger said. “Zach’s really coming along; just rebounding the heck out of the ball. Very pleased with the defense and rebounding and energy, and you need that, with just a few parents in the stands.”

Jack Kiesbuy earned praise from Winger for his defense on Arie VanDenBerg of Sandpoint (2-5, 0-3), who finished with seven points. Darren Bailey led the Bulldogs with eight points.

Lake City played without sophomore post Blake Buchanan, who suffered a hairline fracture in his left wrist last week against Moscow. Winger was unsure how long Buchanan would be out.

PLUMMER — As Lakeside coach James Twoteeth noted, whenever his team faces the Royals — and 7-foot Malachi Bullington — it usually wipes away one of the Knights' better scoring threats.

But not all of them.

Kenyon Spotted Horse scored 20 points, JJ Hall added 14 for the Knights in a win over the Royals at Ron Miller Court.

“We pressured them a little bit and it kind of got to them in the first half,” Twoteeth said. “Every time we play them, we’ll put Day Day (Higgins) on Bullington, and they usually cancel each other out and they just kind of wrestle around the entire game. We had a mix on him tonight, but when he’s not in the game, Day Day comes out. But I was pleased with how we played defensively.”

Bullington scored nine points for North Idaho Christian (13-6), Higgins had six points for Lakeside (8-1).

North Idaho Christian travels to Covenant Christian of Spokane on Thursday.

Jasper Abuan scored 13 points for Lakeside, which hosts Genesis Prep on Friday.
