COEUR d'ALENE — Lake City scored the game's first 16 points en route to a 69-35 win over Sandpoint boys basketball on Tuesday night.

Head coach Mike Roos said the boys are still trying to figure out the new scheme he installed late last week and he's proud of the patience they've shown.

"Offensively we're learning a new rotation," he said. "We had guys playing different positions, we're learning a whole new offensive system and honestly the kids are doing great. They have a good attitude, they are all good kids, they all work hard, but it's almost a new season. We're four days in. We started this year last Friday."

The Timberwolves built a 20-4 first quarter and cruised from there. Roos said the Bulldogs struggled a bit defensively and need to have better shot selection.

"They're working through the growing pains of it, but Lake City they are a top 5A team," he said. "They were hitting their shots, they were running things well. That's what happens when you run into a good team."

Darren Bailey led the team with 8 points, Arie VanDenBerg and Colin Roos each had 7 and Randy Lane added 6.

As the Bulldogs continue to adjust, they won't get much time off. Sandpoint (2-5, 0-3 Inland Empire League) hosts Timberlake at 7 p.m. Thursday, before heading to rival Lakeland on Friday.

"We're just trying to work through it as best as we can," Roos said.
