POST FALLS — A Spokane man who was previously arrested for stalking and alleged possession of child porn returned to jail for the second time this week after police said he violated a protection order.
Chadlen D. Smith, 36, is charged with violating a protection order, a misdemeanor.
He was arrested earlier this month for allegedly stalking a Post Falls Police Department employee.
Police said Smith had followed the employee home in late December, then returned to the employee’s neighborhood multiple times over the following weeks, where police said he took photos of the area.
Smith was arrested on Jan. 3 and charged with second degree stalking, a misdemeanor, after police found him in the employee’s neighborhood around 5 a.m.
A judge ordered that he be held on $15,000 bail, which he posted.
Electronics in Smith’s possession at the time of his arrest were seized as possible evidence in the stalking case, according to court documents.
Forensic examination of the devices allegedly yielded multiple infant and toddler pornography images.
Post Falls Police detectives arrested Smith on Jan. 11 for suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was reportedly released from jail the following day, as charges had not yet been filed.
Smith has a prior felony conviction of injury to a child stemming from a 2009 lewd conduct with a minor case, police said.
Smith reportedly returned to Post Falls on Tuesday, Jan. 12, to inquire about recovering items that had been seized as evidence during his last arrest.
Police said Smith had previously been served with a civil protection order stating he was not to come within 2,000 feet of the Post Falls Police Department.
However, police located Smith in a parked car about 1,200 feet away from the building, according to court documents.
Smith was arrested at the scene.
Judge Daniel McGee ordered Wednesday that Smith be held on $5,000 bail and issued a no contact order between Smith and the employee.
Smith reportedly posted bail.

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium
For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
