It’s a running narrative for the speech and debate teams at Flathead and Glacier high schools, which once again took second and third place, respectively, at a Class AA tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Flathead team earned 138.5 points overall at the virtual tournament hosted by Belgrade. Glacier finished with 108.5 points. Bozeman finished in first place with 194.5 overall points.

“For the fifth straight competition, Flathead finished in second place behind Bozeman, who is a real powerhouse this season,” Flathead Head Coach Shannon O’Donnell said.

“This weekend marked the end of our JV season, and I’m truly proud of the dedication shown by our JV competitors in the face of the many challenges that come with virtual competition,” she said. “Now, we look forward to defending our state championship at what will be a tough state tournament this year against such a well-balanced and strong Bozeman team.

With the state tournament scheduled Jan. 29-30, there is not a lot of time to turn things around.

“We have no excuses,” Glacier Head Coach Greg Adkins said. “We have to bounce back from this disappointing team performance if we want to compete for a state title at the end of the month. I have faith in this team,"
