Local notes: Benefield earns another all-state honor; Banks voted player of the week

Benefield named to NW Spotlight's all-state team
Sandpoint linebacker Tag Benefield earned more all-state honors on Monday. The senior was named to Northwest Spotlight's all-state defensive team.
In December, the 4A Inland Empire League Defensive MVP received a spot on SBLive's all-state team and garnered second team 4A all-state recognition from the Idaho Statesman.
Benefield tallied 121 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two defensive touchdowns, one sack and one forced fumble this past fall for the Bulldogs.
Banks voted girls basketball player of the week
SHS senior Kaylee Banks was voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Idaho High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 4-10. Banks received over 85 percent of the votes from fans.
During that week, Banks tallied 17 points, five steals and four assists in a 40-30 win over Bonners Ferry on Jan. 5 and 20 points in a 41-29 victory at Moscow on Jan. 8.
Banks has also been nominated for SBLive’s WaFd Bank Idaho High School Girls Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts this past week. Banks scored 16 points in an IEL victory at rival Lakeland this past Friday.
Players are nominated by fans and SBLive staff. Voting for the Jan. 11-17 Player of the Week is currently ongoing and concludes Sunday at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced on Monday.

Bulldogs get revenge, down Lakeland on Senior Night
The Bulldogs recovered from a rough opening quarter to down the Hawks 48-37 and split the regular season series between the two Inland Empire League foes. The victory also puts Sandpoint in the driver's seat to grab the No. 1 seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament.
Lumberjacks pull away from SHS, hand Bulldogs 5th straight loss
A win was within reach for Sandpoint boys basketball late in the third quarter of Tuesday's game, but a 12-2 run by St. Maries dashed those hopes.
