A local gun range has hit a bull’s-eye for the second time.

The Glock Sport Shooting Foundation named Center Target Sports in Post Falls the best indoor shooting range in the U.S., 10 years after the range first earned the honor.

“We’re very proud,” said Ed Santos, who owns Center Target Sports with his wife, Peggy.

He added that he doesn’t know of another range that’s received the award more than once.

The award is given based on customers who write or email the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation about the quality of ranges — a point of pride for Peggy Santos.

“It’s determined by the people who use our facilities,” she said. “We’re pretty proud of that in our small town here.”

Center Target Sports has 3,000 feet of retail space, as well as a 25-yard indoor range with wide stalls to accommodate shooters with varying needs. A computerized lighting control system makes it possible to simulate different light levels for training purposes, from moonlight to daylight.

She credits their success to a clean, family-friendly facility and knowledgeable staff.

“We get to know our customers by name,” she said.

After 16 years in operation, Peggy noted, more than 25,000 students have trained at Center Target Sports. The facility specializes in defensive and sport shooting.

“Training is what we do here,” she said. “We believe everyone who owns a gun ought to be trained properly in how to use it.”

More than 60 shooters return month after month for events. It’s those regulars, Peggy said, as well as other patrons whose support led to Center Target Sports being honored for the second time since 2010.

“We’re a drop in the bucket compared to the many ranges across the country,” she said. “Our customers support us and let Glock know they love coming here. It’s huge.”

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium

For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
