Changes to high school state tourneys
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Idaho High School Activities Association on Tuesday announced several changes to its winter state tournaments.
The state wrestling tournaments will now be one-day tourneys, instead of two, at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
The 5A and 4A tourneys will be Friday, Feb. 26, and the 3A and 2A tourneys will be Saturday, Feb. 27.
In girls and boys basketball, the 1A Division I and 1A Division II tournaments will run Wednesday through Friday, rather than Thursday through Saturday.
The girls 1A tournaments will be Feb. 17-19, the boys 1A tourneys March 3-5, with the championship games on that Friday at the Ford Idaho Center.
The 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A tourneys will remain on their Thursday-through-Saturday schedule, and the change means there will be four title games on Saturday at the Idaho Center, rather than six, allowing tournament officials to allow for more time between title games.
The sites for the girls tourneys haven't changed, but the 5A girls consolation games in Friday will move to Ridgevue High in Nampa, where Saturday's consolation title and third-place games were already slated.
Likewise, the 5A boys consolation games in Friday will move to Ridgevue High in Nampa, where Saturday's consolation title and third-place games were already slated.
That will allow the two 1A boys and girls title games on Friday to be played at the Idaho Center.
The 4A boys tourney was moved from Borah High in Boise to Rocky Mountain High in Meridian, and the 2A boys tourney was moved from Capital High in Boise to Eagle High, due to more strict COVID restrictions at Boise School District schools.
The 3A boys tourney will be played at Columbia High in Nampa, due to construction at Meridian High, the longtime host.
Attendance and COVID protocols for all tourneys are TBA, the IHSAA said.
