VETERAN: An unexpected reward
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 7 months AGO
I am writing to share an experience I had the other day. After my workout at the gym in Hayden, I went across the street to do some shopping at the Super 1 grocery store before going home.
While I was in the store, I noticed a woman with three children of various ages who were extremely polite and well dressed. While I was checking out and getting ready to pay for my groceries, the checker said this lady in the lane across from mine was paying for my groceries.
I was stunned and asked her why she was doing this. Her reply was “Thank You For Your Service” as she saw I was wearing my Air Force baseball cap. I have never in all my life been so rewarded as this.
During these times of depression, and all the other things that plague this nation, I can truthfully say what a wonderful gesture on her part, as it was a far cry from the reception we received when arriving home from Vietnam.
I am still in a somewhat stage of shock, but just when I was at a low because of the current situation in our country, this lady and her family renewed my faith in America and really did appreciate our service.
I had to share this with you and hope this family reads this letter, just to know serving was my pleasure.
May God bless her and her family.
