POST FALLS — Trailing by eight points at halftime after scoring all of three points in the second quarter, the Lake City Timberwolves underwent an attitude adjustment in the second half.

Brooklyn Rewers scored 12 of her 20 points in the second half, and her fellow seniors also picked it up as Lake City outscored Post Falls 29-6 in the final two quarters for a 47-32 Inland Empire League victory Thursday night at The Arena.

“I don’t know how to explain anything anymore,” Lake City coach James Anderson said of the second-half turnaround. “I’m just so proud of our kids, because we ended the half on a 0-13 run, and went in with our heads down. For the first time, I felt like the senioritis started to hit us, and to come out of the locker room and respond that way, really proud.

“The best part of any season is when the seniors sense that time is running out, and they elevate their game, and they become special … Brooklyn was amazing, and Hailey Jo Parks coming off the bench after not playing much the last couple of games, and giving us a spark like she did was absolutely outstanding.”

Senior Jaya Miller scored all seven of her points in the second half for Lake City (11-5, 8-3 IEL), and senior Hailey Jo Parks added six of her seven points after intermission.

Dylan Lovett scored seven points for Post Falls (10-6, 8-3), which won 57-47 at Lake City. Because Lake City won the rematch by more than 10 points (with a 12-point cap), if the two teams end up tied in league, the Timberwolves would hold the tiebreaker over the Trojans for the second and third seeds to the 5A Region 1 tournament, which begins next Friday. The second and third seeds meet in the first round, at the home of the No. 2 seed.

“When you score six points in the second half, you’re not going to beat anybody,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “You’ve got to give Lake City credit; they picked up their defense a little more in the second half. I think we rushed some things offensively, we didn’t run our offense very well the second half, and for the game we did not make a shot outside the key.”

Both teams wrap up the regular season with IEL games on Tuesday, Lake City at Lakeland and Post Falls at home vs. Sandpoint.
