KELLOGG — Sophomore guard Kolby Luna scored 14 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Kellogg Wildcats outlasted the Timberlake Tigers 65-57 on Friday in an Intermountain League game at Andrews Gymnasium.

“It was a tight game throughout,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “We were down three points at halftime, but it was at a single possession the entire second half. We were in the same situation against Bonners (a 75-70 overtime loss on Jan. 16), but came out and responded a lot better in overtime. Kolby really stepped up when we needed it.”

Zach Yetter scored 17 points for Timberlake (3-10, 0-3 IML).

“He was killing us off the dribble tonight,” Martin said. “He was able to get into the right spots and find guys in the corner. He did a good job tonight.”

Logan Jerome scored 19 points and Riply Luna had 11 points, seven steals and six rebounds for Kellogg (6-5, 1-2), which visits St. Maries on Wednesday.

POST FALLS — Sophomore Vander Brown totaled 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and the visiting Knights eventually pulled away from the improved Jaguars in Scenic Idaho Conference play at The Courts at Real Life.

Brown is running the point in place of senior Kenyon Spotted Horse, last year’s 1A Division II Player of the Year, who remains in COVID-19 quarantine. Lakeside coach James Twoteeth is optimistic Spotted Horse will be able to return next week.

“Vander’s stepping up; he and Day Day (Higgins) are pretty good on the pick and roll,” Twoteeth said of Brown. “He doesn’t lack for confidence.”

Higgins added 19 points, JJ Hall 17 for Lakeside (11-2, 3-0 SIC), which clinched a tie for the inaugural league title.

Eli Gonzales led Genesis Prep (2-7, 0-3) with 13 points.

“Brown, Higgins and Hall were just too much for us,” Genesis Prep coach Jeff Hironaka said. “We were able to play a quarter, but they had a big run in the second quarter and broke the game open.”

Lakeside plays North Idaho Christian on Monday in Plummer.

Genesis Prep travels to Wallace on Thursday.

• NOTE

No appeal will be filed to the District 1 Board of Control by Genesis Prep Academy as a result of a 46-45 loss to Wallace in Scenic Idaho Conference play, the school announced.

Genesis Prep defeated Wallace 45-44, but had an unsportsmanlike technical foul assessed on a fan as the teams were leaving the court. That foul resulted in the Miners being awarded two free throws after the game had ended. Wallace guard Carter Bailey made both, giving the Miners a 46-45 win.

“We did file an appeal with Mr. John Posnick, the (basketball) commissioner of District 1,” Genesis Prep principal Paul Schroeder told The Press in an email. “Based on his investigation and counsel we chose not to appeal his ruling to the District 1 Board of Control.”

Schroeder said the fan, who he declined to identify, was restricted from attending Friday’s game against Lakeside, as well as the Jaguars’ next game at Wallace next Thursday. Additionally, the fan must complete an online course in sportsmanship before returning to any games.

“The fan in question, feeling remorse and regret, apologized to the coach and players in the locker room, asking for forgiveness,” Schroeder said. “The fan has apologized to me/the school as well, and has fully submitted to this process of restoration.”
