A Grant County Jail inmate who escaped Sunday was apparently still on the loose Monday evening.

Carlos Camarena, 25, was a jail trustee taking trash to a dumpster when he ran at around 5 p.m., according to a Grant County Sheriff’s Office social media post.

Camarena, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, was last seen near the courthouse, which is on C Street Northwest in Ephrata, just before 6 p.m. He was wearing a white jail jumpsuit when he fled.

Corrections deputies, GCSO deputies, Ephrata police, and Washington State Patrol troopers searched the area, and a Moses Lake Police Department K-9 tracked Camarena’s scent, but Camarena got away.

People who lived between First and 11th avenues were advised to go inside and await further instructions, but that was canceled at 6:30 p.m.

Camarena was serving a 240-day sentence for second-degree burglary and third-degree theft. He has a non-violent criminal history, the GCSO stated.
