KELLOGG — A Kellogg man is currently in custody after he allegedly hit another man with a splitting maul last Friday night.

According to Shoshone County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jeff Lee, deputies and medical personnel responded to the Bumblebee area of the North Fork when a 911 call came in at 1:03 a.m. reporting an individual with a head injury.

Once on scene, deputies learned from witnesses that Jesse Story, 33, of Kellogg allegedly hit the injured individual in the head with a splitting maul and then fled the area in a white Ford pickup truck.

The injured party ended up being treated for non-life threatening wounds while deputies gathered more information on Story's whereabouts.

At 10:08 a.m., deputies tracked the suspect to a residence in Kellogg and took him into custody.

Story was booked into the Shoshone County Jail for charges of assault with intent to murder, battery with intent to commit serious bodily harm, malicious injury to property and violating his probation. Court records also indicate he has a no contact order filed against him that took effect July 12.

Lee declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation.
