Police: Sex offender didn’t update info
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 4 years, 9 months AGO
HAYDEN — A registered sex offender could face prison time after police said he failed to update his information.
Byron K. Jones, 31, of Post Falls, is charged with failure to notify of an address change, a felony.
Sex offenders in Idaho are required to notify the county sheriff’s office of any changes in residence within two business days.
Deputies with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said Jones was no longer living at his registered address but did not notify the sheriff’s office.
When contacted by police on July 20, Jones reportedly admitted that he had been living out of a motorhome at multiple locations throughout Kootenai County.
He had not been in contact with his probation officer for about two months, according to court documents.
Police arrested Jones in Hayden.
Jones pleaded guilty to attempted rape in Payette County in 2009, when he was 19 years old.
Though he was sentenced to up to seven years in prison, a judge opted to retain jurisdiction in the case.
That means Jones would spend about six months in a prison treatment program, called a rider, before the judge either placed him on probation or sent him back to prison.
In December 2009, Jones was released on his own recognizance and placed on supervised probation for three years.
Between 2011 and 2012, Jones was charged twice with violating the terms of his probation. He pleaded guilty in both cases.
After the second guilty plea, the court revoked his probation and ordered imposition of the original sentence with credit for time served.
The state requested this week that Jones be held on $1,000 bond.
Judge Patrick McFadden ordered that Jones be released on his own recognizance.
In Idaho, failure to update sex offender information is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
