William Gilcrist, 80

William "Bill" Gilcrist Sr.

Born August 21st, 1940, passed away on May 21st, 2021 at the age of 80 in his hometown of Spokane, Wash. His battle with cancer over the past 10 years showed his courage and determination at facing life's challenges with a smile.

Anyone who knew Bill would tell you about his infectious smile; his ability to build, fix or repair just about anything he touched; and his unrelenting work ethic, demonstrated by being at the same facility in Idaho for over 45 years. He made the rank of Lieutenant in the Civil Defense and was a volunteer firefighter. He had a great passion for the outdoors, fishing, camping, gold prospecting, as well as traveling in his motorhome to the Oregon Coast to go clamming, crabbing and sightseeing.

He was a very devoted father to Willie, Harold, Darryl, and Debbie; grandfather to Aubrielle (Chris), Austin, Justin, Brianna, Andrew, and Holly; and great grandfather to Ellarose, Kayleb, Ryleigh, Macy, and Jordynn. He loved his family very much and would take them on trips to the great outdoors, always available to repair their cars, and attend any special family events.

Bill had a passionate love affair with ice cream, coconut cream pie and for some odd reason, in the latter weeks of his life, Cup O'Noodles and Diet Pepsi. He is survived by three children Willie (Wendy), Harold, and Darryl, along with his sister Rosie and brothers Walter (Ann) and Alvin. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie, father William E Gilcrist, mother Valerie Gilcrist, and brothers Tom, Melvin, and Merlin.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 26, 2021 at Peone Prairie Cemetery in Spokane, Wash.
