YAKIMA, Wash. — Troy Shepard struck out seven in a six-inning complete-game three-hitter for the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen in a 12-1 win over the Yakima Pepsi Beetles in the second game of a doubleheader at Parker Field on Saturday night.

Coeur d’Alene won the first game 8-4, improving to 4-3 with the sweep.

Marcus Manzardo and Jackson Scherr had two RBIs each in the opener for Coeur d’Alene. Ryan Schneider had three doubles and a run scored.

Cooper Erickson struck out five in four innings for Coeur d’Alene in the opener.

In the nightcap, Cooper Larson hit a three-run double in the first inning and Parker Rimpau drove in five runs for Coeur d’Alene. Shepard gave up one hit in the first five innings.

“We hit the ball really well all the way through the lineup,” Coeur d’Alene coach Darren Taylor said. “Cooper pitched really well in that first game and Troy was his usual self in the second game and just overpowered their squad. We had a lot of timely hits and Cooper’s double really got us rolling in the first inning of the second game.”

Coeur d’Alene plays a doubleheader at Richland today starting at 10 a.m.

“I like the way we’re gelling right now,” Taylor said. “We’re starting to make plays and lean on each other. Offensively, we’re averaging 10 runs a game, so that will be a strength moving forward. If we continue to do that, we could have some good things coming our way.”
