Quincy boys start slowly, take a drubbing from Chelan

QUINCY — The Quincy High School boys basketball team couldn’t climb out of an early hole against Chelan High School Friday at home, falling 87-53.
Chelan’s offense came out of the locker room red-hot, jumping out to a 23-8 advantage after the first quarter. The visitors stayed hot as the Quincy Jacks’ shooting fell short. Quincy trailed 41-18 heading into halftime.
The Quincy offense found some life in the third quarter, but Chelan responded with a surge of its own, leading at 68-44 lead by the fourth. Chelan’s offense and defense continued to cause problems for Quincy to the final whistle.
Chelan finished the game at 53% from the floor and 57% from deep. Quincy shot just 35% for the game. TreyVaughn Bierlink finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and a block.
Aidan Heikes finished with nine points, four rebounds and five steals, while Aidan Bews finished with 10 points.
Quincy head coach Scott Bierlink said he had expected the team to come out a little sharper. He said it is tough to bounce back from a big early deficit.
“We just didn’t do the things we needed to do to compete and beat a good team,” Bierlink said.
Friday’s defeat leaves Quincy at 2-6. The Jacks face Cashmere High School Monday.
