QUINCY — The Quincy High School girls basketball squad couldn’t keep the offense sparked Friday, falling 46-27 to Chelan High School at home.

Both sides put up intense defensive pressure, keeping scores low in the first quarter. Chelan mustered a little to take a 4-2 lead.

By halftime, Chelan had expanded that lead to 16-6. The Quincy Jacks rallied to pull within single digits, but a last-second three-pointer from Chelan before the horn in the third pushed the lead to 32-20.

Chelan’s offense remained hot in the fourth while Quincy’s remained tepid.

Emily Wurl finished with seven points and 10 rebounds. Joceline Schaapman finished with six, while Karla Nunez and senior Jane Kennedy each finished with four. Kennedy added four rebounds and five assists.

Quincy head coach Micaiah McCreary said the team just missed too many easy shots against Chelan, something she said comes down a lot to the condensed season.

“Just how rushed everything is, I think we’ve had the same number of practices as games,” McCreary said. “It’s really hard to get everything in.”

Defensively, she said her team has stepped up in communication and organization. But, she added, it doesn’t help if the offense can’t get shots to fall.

The Jacks dropped to 2-6 on the season. They play Cashmere High School on Monday at 6 p.m.
