June 10, 1971 – METER MAID NOW ON JOB

Sandpoint has a real meter maid, who will handle the parking meters and write all parking violations. Mrs. Mary Anders began the job June 1, but June 6 was her first day in uniform. Mrs. Anders and police desk clerk Wannie Dill have matching outfits, made by Mrs. Anders, of brown mini-skirts, white shirts with a Sandpoint Police Department shoulder patch, brown bolero ties and brown shoes.

GRAND OPENING

The Korner Store at the intersection of Sagle road and U.S. 95 south will hold a grand opening 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Davis enlarged the popular spot and now offer a full line of groceries, meats, produce, drugs and variety items, in addition to the cafe and service station.

50TH ANNIVERSARY FOR SINDELARS

Mr. and Mrs. William A. Sindelar of Dover were honored May 29, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary, with a party in the Panhandle Room of the Pastime Cafe. Their four daughters had planned the affair for the past year. They are Mrs. Milton (Lorna) Glazier, Laclede; Mrs. Forrest (Betty) Ballou, Chehalis, Wash.; Mrs. Frank (Jean) Oliver, Spokane; and Mrs. George (Joyce) Oliver, of Hyattsville, Md. The Sindelars, who owned and operated the Dover store and postoffice for many years, were married June 2, 1921 in Coeur d’Alene.

A marriage license was issued in Coeur d’Alene last week to William Sindelar of Sagle and Agnes Clemence of Laclede, both of whom attended the local high school last year.

University of Idaho students returning to their homes here for summer vacation include Malcolm McKinnon, Margaret Hoyt and Florence Graves.

TO IMPROVE BEACH

It was reported at the chamber of commerce meeting that the beach bathhouses are insecurely anchored and that additional floating walk is needed to reach them because of this year’s unusually high water. The beach committee was instructed to have pilings driven to anchor the bathhouses and to have more walk floated. The float and springboard used last year broke loose and was later salvaged and tied at the foot of Third avenue.

MERCHANTS ORGANIZE NEOSHA PLAN

At a dinner meeting at the St. James cafe, about 40 merchants organized the Sandpoint Retail Trade bureau as a sub organization of the chamber of commerce for the purpose of conducting a monthly, cooperative sales day in Sandpoint. Under the by-laws, those joining the bureau are bound for one year. Merchants cannot duplicate each other’s sales day bargains and in the advertising space, to be handled by a special committee, no merchant will be allowed more than two 3x3½-inch spaces.
