EPHRATA — After taking public comment on Feb. 23, the Grant County Board of Commissioners voted June 1 to approve the recommendation of the county’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee to close the Coulee City drop box, a trash collection facility.

The last operating day of the facility’s operation is forecast to be Sept. 11.

“It was a difficult decision, but after weighing the expenses vs. revenues, it was clear this drop box was not legally sustainable,” said Commissioner Danny Stone in a press release. “Unfortunately, the current level of customer usage, even with the increase of tipping fees, has not covered the cost of operating the site.”
