COEUR d’ALENE — When Kaelina Schuellerman got off work early Friday, the Rathdrum resident knew where she wanted to go and what to do.

First, pick up daughter Reagan from day care. Second, head to City Park. Third, enjoy Family Day in the Park sponsored by TDS.

It’s something they’ve done each year since Reagan was born four years ago.

“Hang out and with her have a special day,” Schuellerman said.

On a cool, cloudy Friday afternoon, hundreds of kids and parents meandered around City Park enjoying the activities organized by the nonprofit North Idaho Family Group.

There were games, free candy, food booths, a chance to sit in a fire truck, visit with an Idaho Disaster Dog and even get a COVID vaccination shot.

Ironman was there signing up kids for Ironkids race on June 26, the Museum of North Idaho was promoting its latest Hollywood showcase, and there was entertainment and music at the bandshell.

The annual event also highlights health, culture and old-fashioned fun. It ran from about noon to dusk.

Keela Smidt of Post Falls brought children Rosco, Ryatt and Rylee to Family Day at the Park.

All were thrilled to spend time with K-9 Lady, part of the Idaho Disaster Dog exhibit.

Smidt said that as she homeschools her children, it was nice to have a safe and friendly event she could take them to where they could learn a few things, too.

“It’s good interaction for the kids,” she said.
