A Columbia Falls man died Sunday (June 20) after the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer on Columbia Falls Stage Road.

He was identified as Shane Pierson, 51, Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino said. Pierson was wearing a helmet, Heino said.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, Pierson was north bound on the road about 10:48 p.m. when his Harley Davidson motorcycle struck a deer crossing the road.

The bike went on its side and Pierson lost his helmet in the impact, the report stated.

He was transported to Logan Health Hospital where he later succumbed from his injuries.

Speed, alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.
