The Kalispell Downtown Association has completed the installation of an artistic bike rack on the corner of Main Street and First Street East.

The functional metal sculpture, called "Forest Buddies," is the first of three unique sculptural bike racks created as part of the association’s Kalispell Art on the Streets program.

Artist Tanya Lambrecht designed the "Forest Buddies" sculpture, which resembles wildlife creatures. Two additional bike rack designs by artists Tessa Heck George and Lovie Englishbee will be built in the coming months.

Flathead Valley Community College’s Occupational Trades Department is completing the fabrication work for the project.

"The project embodies the Kalispell Downtown Association’s commitment to functional art that improves bike/pedestrian friendliness and adds color and vitality to the downtown landscape," the organization said in a press release.

Sponsors for the bike rack program include the Laura Grace Barrett Living Art Foundation, Flathead Valley Community College, the Kalispell Business Improvement District, the Kalispell Downtown Association and Pacific Steel and Recycling.

A celebration of the installation will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Montavino Winery, 38 First Ave. E. Suite D. Members of the public are invited to attend the event.

Forest Buddies and a directory of other downtown sculptures and murals can be found on the free Downtown Kalispell Arts and Entertainment Pass at experience.downtownkalispell.com/artsandentertainment.
