Pilot staff honored at newspaper awards

The Whitefish Pilot earned 14 awards during the annual Montana Newspaper Association convention Saturday in Big Sky.

The awards include seven first-place honors.

Editor Heidi Desch won first place in the best sports feature story and third place for best lifestyle coverage.

Reporter Whitney England earned a list of honors including second place for sports story and sports photo, third place for best sports feature story and second place for best continuing news coverage.

Advertising Director Jessica Tullos earned second place in the best color ad to sell or promote services.

Becky Lee won several awards for ad design including first place for online ad, ad to sell or promote merchandise, ad to sell or promote services, sponsor page, best use of local photography in an ad and best marketing campaign. She also earned second place for best ad to sell or promote merchandise.

The Whitefish Pilot competes in the Division 2 for weekly newspapers with a circulation of 1,250 to 2,000.

Qualifying students achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the term.
