Incumbent Troy Mayor Dallas Carr will face off against City Councilor Chuck Ekstedt in this year’s general election.

Carr and Ekstedt, who went toe-to-toe in the 2017 mayoral race, were the only two candidates to file for the seat as of the June 21 deadline. City Councilor Shawna Kelsey and newcomer J.P. Downey were the only ones to submit paperwork for two open positions on the council.

Before being elected mayor in 2017, Carr served for four years on city council. He worked at the ASARCO Troy Mine for 21 years, gaining leadership experience as an underground shift foreman for 12 of those years, Carr told The Western News in 2017.

Esktedt has served on the council since the beginning of 2018 and runs Ekstedt Tree Services.

The municipal general election will be held on Nov. 2.
