WHITEFISH — Mason Peters doubled, tripled and scored three runs to help the Glacier Twins beat the Clark Fork Valley Riverdogs 8-0 at the Ed Gallo Tournament late Friday at Memorial Field.
Stevyn Andrachick threw five shutout innings and combined with Mikey Glass for a 4-hit shutout for the Twins. Andrachick struck out four; Glass fanned two Riverdogs, who draw players mostly from Plains and Thompson Falls. Each pitcher walked one.
Andrachick got all the support he needed in the third: He hit an RBI single to score Peters, who’d hit a leadoff triple; Zach Veneman followed with a single and Jacob Polumbus doubled to center to make it 3-0.
Polumbus had two hits and drove in three for Glacier; Peters had two RBIs to go with his three hits. Veneman and Andrachick had two hits each. Taylor Bryan scored twice.
The Twins (29-8) played the Spokane Dodgers late Saturday; the winner was likely to play in Sunday’s 7 p.m. championship game.
KV Rangers 8, Spokane Expos 4
Jake Buckingham’s bases loaded single ended up clearing the bases, capping a 5-run fifth inning for the Kootenai Valley Rangers (9-9), who held off the Spokane Expos 16U, 8-4.
Tristan Butts had a two-run single previous to Buckingham’s knock, and the inning was helped along by four walks issued along with a dropped third strike.
Kyle Durken threw 6 ⅔ innings, allowing eight hits and two walks. He struck out six.
Back-to-back doubles to lead off the seventh sparked an Expos comeback in the seventh, before Sammy Hall came in and recorded the final out for the save.
