COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a wanted man after he allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend.
Lawrence T. Gee, 33, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with second degree kidnapping, domestic battery in the presence of a child and intimidating a witness, all felonies.
The charges stem from June 26, when a woman who identified herself as Gee’s girlfriend told Coeur d’Alene police that Gee had attacked her in front of her children.
Over the course of an evening, she said Gee slammed her arm into a car door, pulled her hair and shoved his thumbs inside her mouth, causing cuts on her lips.
Police were unable to locate Gee that night.
When police contacted the woman at her residence the following day, she refused to let them inside and said she wanted to recant her earlier statement about Gee.
Hours later, she contacted law enforcement and said Gee was standing behind the door during their visit. She said she lied to police out of fear.
Gee then allegedly told the woman to call the police and take back the abuse allegations.
The next day, as police worked to obtain a warrant for Gee’s arrest, the woman’s mother contacted law enforcement.
She provided police with a text message she had received from her daughter, which stated Gee had forced her and the children to get into a vehicle that belonged to Gee’s friend.
Security footage reportedly corroborated the text message.
Gee’s friend allegedly drove the group to another location. The woman said she texted her mother before Gee took the battery out of her phone.
She said Gee later told her they needed to leave the location. They drove back to the woman’s residence, a Coeur d’Alene apartment complex.
As the woman was getting the children out of the car, the apartment manager reportedly spotted them.
Police said the manager ushered the woman and children to a locked area, where they waited for law enforcement to arrive.
Police detained Gee near the scene and later arrested him on a $50,000 warrant.
A judge ordered Tuesday that Gee be held on $150,000 bail on the kidnapping charge.
In a separate matter, Gee is charged with injury to a child and sexual battery, both misdemeanors. That case is scheduled for trial in August.

For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.
