After a one-year hiatus, Troy is set to host its old-fashioned Fourth of July celebration this summer.

Susie Taylor, of the Troy Chamber of Commerce, said officials with the Lincoln County Health Department gave the green light to the event on Feb. 19. Organizers are reaching out to volunteers and hoping to have their planning committee up and running by next week.

With less time than most years to prepare, Taylor said the organization is working hard to get the event off the ground.

This year’s celebration is likely to feature new vendors. Taylor said that organizers have canceled events that would normally draw merchants away from Troy.

According to a social media post from the chamber, organizers have already been in touch with the Troy Fire Department regarding the celebration's famous fireworks display.

Troy has held a traditional Fourth of July celebration for over 100 years, according to the chamber’s website. More than 6,000 people visit the town annually for the family-oriented celebration.

Past celebrations have featured parades, car shows, food vendors, craft vendors and live music.

Officials with the Chamber opted last year to cancel the celebration out of an abundance of caution. Uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and, at the time, government imposed restrictions, combined to make planning the event a risky proposition.
