March 7, 1971 – CHRISTINE MOON HONORED

Christine Moon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.G. “Bud” Moon Jr., earned academic distinction at Whitman College, Walla Walla, Wash., achieving a perfect 4.0 grade average for the fall semester.

TWO TO GO WITH VANDALEERS

Beth Thompson and Chris Wyatt will represent Sandpoint, the U of I and the state of Idaho Mar. 13 – Apr. 4 in England, Holland, Denmark, France and Germany with the U of I Vandaleers Concert Choir. Miss Thompson, an alternate, and Miss Wyatt, a regular, will have this opportunity due to the good people of Sandpoint who generously helped make the trip possible. Contributors included: Mr. and Mrs. Babe Pederson, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Neuder, Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Berry, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Brown, Dr. and Mrs. T.E. Alm, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Benoit, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Goin; Kiwanis Club, Lions, Jaycees, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, Rotary and Idaho Nu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

COCOLALLA CHURCH HAS A NEW NAME

Cocolalla Community Church is now Southside Community Church. Pastor David Hathaway said the congregation doubled in size last year and is four times as large as two years ago, drawing members from all over the Southside area. The past two Sundays attendance has averaged 60.

No marriage licenses have been issued since February 23. Auditor McCrea does not consider this unusual for the year following leap year.

Mrs. Emma C. Melquist is quite ill at her home on Fourth avenue [Note: in 2021, the site of Sweet Magnolia Freedom house at 502 N. 4th].

PACK RIVER – SUNNYSIDE NEWS

The two school libraries, belonging to the Oden and Sunnyside schools have been exchanged to give the children a greater variety of books.

The ladies of this area wish to thank the ladies of the Sandpoint Civic club for the use of the rest room. As one person said, “If the Civic Club never did another thing than to establish and maintain the rest room, they have justified their existence. It surely is appreciated by all who visit it.”

There was an enjoyable dance Saturday at the Community cottage, the first one since Christmas.

Buttercups were found blooming on the Sanitarium site Saturday.

SANDPOINT “MOVIE” NEWS

Manager Gardner of the Gem Theater is now making repairs on his building to cost $15,000. The building is being enlarged, air-cushion seats installed, and he has bought a $6600 Foto-player [Note: a player piano used for music and sound effects for silent movies].
