West Bonner County School District voters are headed to the polls today to decide the fate of a supplemental levy appearing on today's ballots.

The levy would maintain the district's current $1.47 mill rate per $1,000 of assessed property value, which covers about 25% of the district’s budget, WBCSD officials said.

Although the mill rate has not increased, should the levy pass the district will receive roughly $3.4 million instead of $3 million as they did previously due to an increase in the region’s property values.

Statewide, officials said roughly 80% of school districts in the state run a levy.

Other necessities funded in part by the levy are building maintenance and salaries for classified employees.

To pass, the levy needs a simple majority.

The West Bonner County School District also has the lowest mill rate in the region at $1.47. By comparison, several other districts in the region have mill rates around $2.
