CASA announces Ray of Hope luncheon

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. Expanded services for the community's child victims will be highlighted at next week's Ray of Hope community luncheon.
Set for Tuesday, March 16, the event is hosted by North Idaho CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
"A special thanks to Ben and Rhonda Tate and Finan McDonald for sponsoring this event for the seventh year in a row," Kristin Ludwig, director of development of North Idaho CASA. "CASA is also proud to partner with Bonner General Health as an additional event sponsor."
Doors open at 11:30 p.m. and the program begins at noon. It is being held at Tango Cafe.
This year, CASA is highlighting its expanded serves as well as honoring CASA advocates and thanking its partner agencies for their support. In addition, North Idaho CASA officials will pay tribute to the program's advocate of the year.
CASA supports trained Advocates for over 400 child abuse and neglect victims in North Idaho. Advocates investigate child protection cases, represent the child’s best interest in court and help find them a safe home with a forever family.
CASA rural trainer, Rita Lefler will highlight some success stories from this past year. Advocate of the Year will be awarded to Marilyn Weiland on her willingness to take on Boundary County cases as well as her Advocacy in Bonner County.
All proceeds raised at this event will stay in Bonner and Boundary county. North Idaho CASA is a registered 501 c3. Visit NorthIdahoCasa.org to find out more information.

The First Judicial District CASA Program serves the five northern counties of Idaho and served over 500 children in 2019 — 97 of those children were in Bonner and Boundary counties, including 29 were under the age of 5. Twenty-eight active advocates served these cases under the leadership of Bonner supervisor Jessie Sheldon.
