The Boundary Community Hospital Auxiliary is ready for their big annual fundraiser, and it’s a sweet one. On Friday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the VFW Hall on Lincoln Street they will be selling a variety of pies and desserts.

Pies, cakes and other desserts will be available for sale in whole or individual portions. This year, there will be treats beyond the traditional pie selection; cheesecake, layer cake and other baked goods will be available, too.

They will even deliver desserts to businesses in Bonners Ferry city limits, and those interested can also call 208-920-0921 to place an order for curbside pickup. The Auxiliary will only accept cash or check.

They strongly recommend coming early saying that “the proverbial early bird gets the - well, in this case, gets to choose from the widest selection of choice desserts.”

The Auxiliary is also accepting donations for the sale. If you are interested in donating baked goods you can bring your goodies to the VFW between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. There will be a check-in table for all donations.

The annual Pie and Dessert Sale is a late winter tradition that has been going on for decades. 40 to 50 years, said Jan Weaver, Auxiliary Treasurer and sale chairperson. No one seems to know the exact number of years but the Boundary County Hospital Auxiliary has been supporting the hospital through fundraising and volunteering since 1955. A number of members are retired from or currently working for the hospital.

Funds from the sale are used to purchase patient-focused items for Boundary Community Hospital. This year they are hoping to purchase a wheelchair, exercise balls for physical therapy, blood pressure cuffs for the clinic's lend-out program and a costly Alzheimer's game for the Extended Care Facility.

Everyone with the Auxiliary looks forward to seeing the public at the sale and invites everyone to participate by bringing desserts and/or partaking of the special sweet treats.

Museum is more than just a tourist attraction

When you think about museums, you might think about the Metropolitan or the Louvre, those large, popular tourist attractions known worldwide. Important both culturally and historically, museums give us a glimpse of life in another place and time, providing a snapshot of a world long past or facing extinction.
