Harvest for Hunger food bank fundraiser kicks off

MOSES LAKE — A group of orange-vested CHS SunBasin Growers staff, along with a T-Rex mascot, waved down cars Tuesday passing by the Cenex station at 1015 E. Broadway Ave. in Moses Lake to wash windows, offer water and soda and collect donations for CHS’s corporate-wide, national Harvest for Hunger fundraiser to put food and money into local food banks.
Along with curbside efforts, Harvest for Hunger is an online auction. Last year, it raised $8,500 for local food banks, CHS Chairman Travis Steffler said. The goal this year is $10,000.
With every two-can donation or more, donors are entered into a raffle to win a $100 fuel card, Steffler said. For every dollar donation, too, CHS matches it.
Food insecurity exists in every county in America, and one in six children in the U.S. faces hunger, he said.
“I think it’s important to do stuff like this, especially in this time,” Steffler said.
CHS staff return today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same location, Steffler said. On March 16 and 18, they will set up their tent off Road Q Northwest in Quincy. To donate to the online auction, visit 32auctions.com/chsh4h.
