Elaine Price has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Coeur d’Alene City Council.

A press release Monday said Price is running on a platform of growth management, focusing on a slowdown of land purchases until Coeur d’Alene’s infrastructure can catch up.

A resident since 1990, Price said she would work to eliminate urban renewal districts or, at the very least, push to make ignite cda — the urban renewal agency — elected, rather than appointed.

Price is running for Seat 6, currently held by Kiki Miller. Miller’s seat is one of three seats — with Amy Evans’s Seat 2 and Woody McEvers’s Seat 4 — up for grabs this November.

Council members Miller, Evans, Dan English and Christie Wood all became targets of an online recall campaign in October. They represent the four "yes" votes that adopted the city’s mask mandate, sparking the backlash.

A small business owner and mother of four, Price hinted at the mask mandate in her announcement.

“Elaine wants to have less government intrusion on the residents of Coeur d’Alene as well as the businesses,” the release states. “She believes it is not the government’s role to make medical decisions for individuals.”

Price ran for a council seat against Wood in 2019, picking up 37 percent of the vote in the loss. In an interview with the Coeur d’Alene Press Monday morning, she said she hopes to make a difference in the community, and that she’s eager to hit the campaign trail.

“I’m really looking forward to talking to people again and hearing from people what they want to see from the city,” she said. “I really enjoyed that part of the campaign, and I’m looking forward to doing that again.”

Miller told The Press that while she has not yet filed the paperwork, she intends to run for re-election.
